How did the trumpet become popular?

In the Baroque era, Bach’s first trumpeter, Gottfried Reiche helped spread the popularity, because of his virtuosity. Then, in the late classical time, around 1790, Haydn wrote a trumpet concerto for the great virtuoso, Anton Weidinger. Weidinger created the keyed trumpet, in e-flat, and helped create the trumpet that is mostly used today the b flat trumpet. now i am asking my self what is more popular the trumpet or the cornet? if you know please leave the answer in the comments box
